For a batch-type oil refinery plant, the production site height requirement is relatively low, but a longer factory layout is usually needed for equipment arrangement. In comparison, a continuous refining line requires more building height because the deodorization tower is quite tall, while the required factory length is relatively shorter.

Batch Oil Refining Process
The batch edible oil refining plant is designed to improve the quality of crude edible oil through several separate refining steps. This process removes impurities, free fatty acids, pigments, odors, and other unwanted substances. After refining, the oil becomes clear, stable, and suitable for consumption. The batch refining method is flexible and easy to operate, which makes it an ideal choice for small to medium edible oil production investors.
1. Degumming
In this step, a small amount of water or acid is added to the crude oil. The oil is heated and mixed in the refining tank. This process helps remove gums, phospholipids, and other colloidal impurities. After mixing, the gums are separated from the oil through settling or centrifugation.
2. Neutralization
Neutralization is used to remove free fatty acids (FFA) from the crude oil. In this process, caustic soda (alkali) is added to the oil. The alkali reacts with free fatty acids and forms soapstock. The soapstock is then separated from the oil. This step improves the stability and taste of the oil.
3. Washing and Drying
After neutralization, the refined oil still contains a small amount of soap and impurities. Hot water is added to wash the oil and remove these remaining substances. After washing, the oil is heated to remove moisture. This drying step prepares the oil for the next refining stage.
4. Bleaching
Bleaching is used to improve the color and purity of the oil. In this step, bleaching earth or activated carbon is added to the heated oil. These materials absorb pigments, trace metals, oxidation products, and other impurities. After mixing for a certain time, the bleaching earth is removed by filtration, and the oil becomes lighter in color.
5. Deodorization
Deodorization is the final refining step. The oil is heated to a high temperature under vacuum conditions. Steam is injected into the oil to remove unwanted odors, flavors, and some remaining free fatty acids. After this process, the oil becomes clear, odorless, and suitable for cooking and food production.
