Extraction of Neem Oil

Neem oil contains steroids (campesterol, beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol) and many triterpenoids of which azadirachtin is the most well known and studied. The azadirachtin content of neem oil varies from 300ppm to over 2500ppm depending on the extraction technology and quality of the neem seeds crushed.

Neem Oil Neem tree is being grown on a commercial basis in US and other countries such as India, Burma and Australia for use in various industries like agriculture and cosmetic etc. Neem oil and its extracts are one of the most useful by products of the magical tree. Neem seed oil is the most effective and is widely used for a large number of applications.

Neem Oil Extraction

Quality of neem oil depends on the type of extraction. Manufacturing of neem oil includes the collection of raw materials for the extraction and selection of extraction method. Neem oil is extracted from neem leaf and need seed. Neem seed is widely used in the neem oil extraction process instead of neem leaf as the oil content is found to be more in seeds than in the leaf.

Neem oil extraction is done by Mechanical pressing, Steam pressure extraction and Solvent extraction. Primary process of extraction of neem oil consists of grade wise separation of seeds. Grading of seeds is done according to the amount of oil content in the seeds and with sizes as well.

Use of Neem Seed Extracts

Agricultural Products : Neem seed extracts have high content of azadirachtin, hence they are of immense use in manufacturing organic pesticides, insecticides.

Cosmetics : The anti fungal and anti bacterial properties of the extracts helps it to be widely used in various skin and body lotions, skin creams and moisturizers. It is also used to make face packs etc.

Pharmaceuticals : Seed extracts are also used to manufacture medicines and drugs curing quite a few diseases and disorders. It is used to manufacture medicated creams curing pimples, blemishes and other skin infections. It is also used to manufacture birth control products
